Art Samberg graduated from MIT with an S.B. in Aeronautics and Astronautics and started his career as an Aerospace Engineer at the Lockheed Missile and Space Company. After deciding the space industry was not for him, Art attended Columbia Business School and went to work as a Security Analyst at Kidder Peabody & Co. He later moved to Weiss, Peck & Greer and worked his way up to Partner, growing the company to $8 billion under management during his 15 year tenure. In 1985, he co-founded Dawson-Samberg Capital Management, where he served as President until the partnership dissolved in 1998. Art subsequently founded Pequot Capital Management, which was at one point the largest hedge fund in the world with $15 billion under management. After shutting down the fund in 2009, Art formed his family office, Hawkes Financial, which focuses on providing early funding for innovative companies.
