Position Details

Scope:

To strengthen and foster existing and build new connections and leads with corporations that might employ Simon school graduates, the career consultant is expected to leverage his/her prior job experience and network to solicit new leads for full time employment and internships. The prior experience will also be used to provide pointed and effective industry specific advice to students looking for jobs in the industries with which the consultant has experience.  Through 1:1 coaching meetings with students, small group training and large group instruction, the Career Consultant upgrades and hones the job search skill training of students in support of their career goals.  The Career Consultant will maintain active relationships with graduating students, building a robust network of the engaged alumni who in turn connect current students to the functional and industry expertise and job opportunities needed for the future success of the Simon School.   Industry experience is desired from the following academic concentrations – finance, marketing, consulting, operations, or information systems consulting.  

Responsibilities:

·      Develop, grow, track and maintain a network of industry contacts in support of Simon students and the efforts of the CMC.

·      Collaborate with Corporate Relations colleagues in coaching students in specific job search-related and industry-related behaviors designed to improve their effectiveness in interviews. 

·      Serve as a conduit of employers and employment opportunities for domestic and international students.  Maintain and foster relationships with employers in former industry/functional area of expertise.  Continue to grow relationships with graduating students, teaming with the Corporate Relations team to develop robust recruiting relationships with their employers. 

·      Collaborate with Career Consulting colleagues in planning, developing, and delivering industry-specific training programs designed to improve students’ knowledge of the industry and employer expectations of MBA candidates.

·      Plan and execute an aggressive coaching and outreach strategy that engages students seeking full time and internship employment in specific functional areas. Engage candidates in 1:1 coaching consultations, small group skill-building training, and job search-related class instruction to support their career goals.

·      As needed, review documents such as resumes, cover letters, profiles, email communications and other correspondence and provide feedback to students to ensure that accomplishments and skills are industry-targeted and emphasize their industry/functional expertise.

·      Provide support and guidance to assigned functional/industry-related clubs including coaching members on networking, assisting with programming, accompanying members on club trips, and advising the club on employment-relevant initiatives.

·      Coach international students in behaviors expected in US and multinational corporations while demonstrating appropriate cultural respect and sensitivity for norms and behaviors of other corporate and ethnic cultures.

·      Serve as a member of the Consulting team.  Manage multiple projects and initiatives (both assigned and self-initiated) in a timely manner, managing tight deadlines and competing priorities.

·      Represent the Career Management Center at regional, national and international conferences in a professional and positively effective manner.

·      Introduce students and clubs to industry-relevant resources such as professional associations and conferences and encourage student participation.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will present the following attributes:

  • Three to five years of experience in an MBA-equivalent role in one or more of the following functional areas: finance, marketing, consulting, operations, information systems consulting or related business function. Ability to demonstrate and communicate depth of functional/industry-related knowledge.
  • BA/BS degree required; MBA or MS in a discipline relevant to business professions preferred.
  • Evidence of excellent client management capabilities and exceptional interpersonal, relationship abilities, preferably with multicultural colleagues.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of and commitment to working with culturally diverse students in a top-ranked US business school.
  • Responsibility for projects that demonstrate project management capabilities and ability to influence others who are not direct reports.
